Remove PDF Signature

Remove a certificate-based digital signature from a PDF. A signed document is locked against changes by design, so a file that needs a correction has to have the signature removed first - and then re-signed once the edit is done. Removing it does not forge anything: it deletes the signature and, with it, any claim the document was making about who approved it.

How to remove a PDF signature

  1. Upload the signed PDF.
  2. Run the removal.
  3. Download the unsigned document, edit it, and sign it again when finished.

Frequently asked questions

Why can I not just edit a signed PDF?

Because a digital signature exists to prove nothing changed after signing. Any edit invalidates it, which is the mechanism working as intended rather than a restriction to work around.

Does removing the signature let me pass the document off as signed?

No - the opposite. The signature is gone, so nothing verifies and Validate PDF Signature will report no signatures present.

Does this remove a drawn signature image too?

No. An image added with Sign PDF is page content, not a digital signature. Remove it by redacting the area.
